Back to the Weight Watchers bandwagon ...

As Cathy Zielske likes to say in the Move More Eat Well Class, "so that happenned...", today was one of those days.

So over the weekend, I decided I needed to get back on the WW bandwagon.  Sadly, I had no idea how far I had strayed from my allotted point count for the day ...  and I was thinking THIS WAS A GOOD DAY!! ugh

On a positive note, my Quinoa Chili (linked below) is only 3.5 points per serving :)  However, my leftover turkey casserole was a whopping 7.5 points per serving.

Oh well.  So that happenned.  Now it's time to move on.  And moving I will be tonight.  Need to work off part of those 6 extra points I ate today ;)

Cheers!

Menu Plan Monday

Like I said, we're back on the wagon.  Planning meals, eating healthy and moving on.  Usually when I've done the meal planning in advance DH poo-poo's the idea and the plan goes to crap.

WELL.  Imagine my surprise when he suggested to me this past weekend we need to plan out our meals better.  YAY!

So in preparation, I've poked through the freezer to see what we have (previous freezer meals) and spent the better part of the afternoon on Pinterest.  Let's hope there were some good ones ;)

Monday:  Quinoa Chili

Tuesday: Maple Glazed Salmon

Wednesday: leftovers - I made WW 0 point Cabbage Soup on the weekend so this is also on the leftover list ...  if there's any left ;)

Thursday: Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken

Friday: Takeout.  I'm actually craving the salad from Montforts so I'm hoping to convince DH to pick that up on his way home.

I'm also going to attempt these at some point : Pumpkin Scones

So if you're reading, do you menu plan?  What are you planning for the week?

Cheers!

Right now ....

There have been a few blog posts along these lines and I love the idea so here goes ...

6:42, our house, on the couch ...

Listening to DS and DH playing Minecraft.  The new XBox addiction for both.

Eating nothing.  Just had dinner.  0 point WW Cabbage Soup.  Still a bit hungry though.  This diet stuff is sucky :(

Drinking water.  Just plain ol' tap water.

Wearing yoga pants and a workout shirt.  No socks and unwashed hair in a ponytail.

Feeling content.  Life is good.

Weather has been cloudy and chilly all day.  Raining on and off.

Wanting to eat something, but I'm either going to grab some veggies or chew gum instead.

Needing a pedicure.  Yet another thing that didn't get crossed off the list this summer.

Thinking of my next batch of letters for my consulting biz, not happy with how the wording has been so far.

Enjoying spending this wonderful weekend with my boys.  Again, life is good.

Whoa! Where did that summer go???

I knew it had been awhile that I hadn't posted on my blog ...  but I had no idea it has been THIS long!

Summer was a whirlwind of renovations, taking the next few steps with my consulting business, lots of sports time for the little guy and many, MANY family filled weekends either poolside or at the beach.  A wonderful summer it was :)

Now that we're back to the routine of school and work, new schedule for sports and activities with a couple of birthday parties tossed in for fun it's time to add the blog back into the mix.

I have some plans for this week to get my momentum going, but until then, for my fellow Canucks I hope you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend :)

Cheers!

OLW Blog Hop - May 1st, letter to myself ....

Hello you!!

Today is a good day and all is good in the world.

You're focusing on yourself and healthy habits and it's finally starting to pay off!  You're getting stronger, feeling happier and in better shape then you've been in months.  Not mention it's a great feeling that your pants are finally starting to get looser...  AND you're fitting into "new" pants that you haven't won in years.  YAY YOU!!

There's a nice stash of cash growing in the bank because you're not so focused on shopping so much ...  and you know what??  Noone is missing what you're not buying and bringing home ;)  Keep remembering that thought while you're on scrappy sites and especially reading enabling posts.

The house is looking great thanks to the decluttering and working a little at a time.  You're doing a great job spending time and focusing on those that love you.

But a few things need a bit of work ...  like work.  We need to focus and change things there.  You're miserable and you know it.  But all is not lost as there's a plan in place.  Just keep plugging along and soon enough, like everything else a new plan will take shape.

Well done old friend, keep it up :)

Week in the Life - 2012

Bad, BAD blogger!!!
I just realized I haven’t blogged in ages ...  well, a couple of weeks anyway.  Life has been a little hectic lately for some reason.
But I really am hoping to keep up this week. Why THIS week in particular?? Because it’s Ali’s “Week in the Life” week.  For those of you who don’t know what WITL is, it’s simple.  It’s like Project Life on steroids.  More of an hour by hour capture of what’s going on.

Here’s a link for more info J

Also, Big Picture Classes has a FREE forum ready to go.  Not sure if I’m going to sign up for the forum, because I’ll end up chatting more than scrapping.  But it’s there for anyone who’s interested.

I am no way an expert on this project, but I really do love it J  It’s a way to focus on the everyday and enjoy the little things in life.
A few pictures I plan on taking every day are:
What I’m wearing to work.
My lunch & supper.
The temperature, also probably a long range forecast at the beginning of the week.
The actual weather outside.
Different clocks and times of day.
Aim for a self portrait everyday, besides the work outfit.
TV shows we watch.
Video games DS is playing.
Prices of things : gas, milk at the store, flyers this week
Also, I'm hoping to remember to take a picture of my mileage before I leave for work in the morning - it would be interesting to see how much I really do drive over a week.

And yes, my house is *tidy* but it’s not super duper clean.  So this week will be a true picture of what life is like at our house – messyness and all.

Cheers!

Right here, right now ....

Happy Good Friday everyone!!

Note, this picture was taken less then 12 hours ago ...  no way am I posting a picture of myself in my *just woken up* state.  Besides, I think I looked pretty good yesterday ...  hence the self portrait photo shoot ;)

listening: to DH and DS playing on the computer and TV on in the background
eating: Just finished breakfast, eggs with hash browns
drinking: Coffee from breakfast, light cream with sugar
wearing: pyjamas (blue, new from Costco).  No judging, it's only 9:25am ;)
feeling: very, very happy I'm home with the family this weekend & excited for Red Loster with my SIL this afternoon
weather: sunny, but cool
watching: 'Super Why and other kids programming on CBC
reading: 'Catching Fire' by Suzanne Collins (Kindle) and 'In a Nutshell' by Janet Evanovich (real book)
waiting: for some motivation to start cleaning the house
wanting: This weekend to go very ,very, slowly. And to savor every moment of it.
needing: To squeeze a run this afternoon to offset the insane amount of food ahead ;)
thinking: about getting some journalling done on some scrapbook layouts and calling my Mom.
enjoying: the lazy morning - haven't had one in awhile
wondering: if my stomach can handle Red Lobster today - I'm still feeling off.
wishing: that I can enjoy this weekend without any family drama.

The best laid plans ....

In a perfect world, I like to plan my menus on Fridays.  It gives me a chance to look over the weekend flyers, pick up things that are on sale (to go with the items already in my pantry and freezer) and get some of the prep/freezer cooking done over the weekend when the dinner hour isn’t so frantic.
But this is isn’t a perfect world.  This is our chaotic life.
This week the plan is nice and simple.  Considering 1) I’m basically flying by the seat of my pants and 2) it’s already Wednesday!!
We don’t typically have themes but it’s more determined by what we have going on in the evenings.
Monday is always leftover day. DH is AMAZING with leftovers.  As DS has swimming lessons on Mondays and I am chauffeur that day, Monday is “quick” leftover night.  We get home from swimming about 7 minutes after DH gets home and EVERYONE is starving.
The rest of the week is pretty routine – karate twice, no dinner meetings for DH or I and because of the gorgeous weather, we’d like to get outside to enjoy the sunshine before we get a last blast of winter.
Monday – Leftover steak with noodles.
Tuesday – Chicken Tacos. Everyone’s favorite.

Thursday – (BBQ) Steak, sautéed mushrooms and corn.
Friday – Baked fish and broccoli for DH & I.  McD’s for DS ;)
Next week, I’ll try get this posted for Monday for those of you who try and get your menus planned for the week then ;)
Cheers!

PSA - Backup your pictures people!!!!

Although we're very fortunate to be living the life we are, we have had more then our share of "first world" problems this week.  And in a few words, I can't wait to put this week to rest and start fresh!!

But the icing on the cake was today.  Saturday of all days!!  We woke up to some major fence damage in our backyard due to the high winds in our area last night.  Then I noticed that all of our pictures were gone off the computer. GONE. OMG I think I started hyperventilating.  On the plus side, *most* of the pictures have been uploaded to Costco already (my online, offsite photo storage ;)) However, there were quite a few that weren't.

So for an hour, while DH was on the phone with some online support, and I was pacing the house "cleaning", all I could think of is WHY didn't we back up the pictures before this happenned.  ugh.

Ironically the fix was simple.  Something about a shortcut being deleted and my pictures are safe and sound.  But you can bet your bottom dollar my pictures will be getting backed up the beginning of each month from this moment on.

Back up your pictures, that's my PSA to you on this windy day.

Cheers!

Happy Dr. Suess Day!!

I have always been the person who needs to have a book on the go, no matter where I go.  As a kid, even on a short car ride to our cousins in the next town I needed *something*.  A chapter book, an Archie comic- just something to entertain me on the mundane ride.

Even now, when we go somewhere longer then a 30 minute drive I take a magazine, a book or now my Kindle.  You get the point, right.  I LOVE TO READ!!!

So imagine my surprise when somehow I realized I married a "non-reader".  Oh, he can read.  He just doesn't like to.  He'll read the paper.  He'll read instructions (sometimes).  But to pick up a book and read??  No way!!  Actually, scratch that, he did read the whole Lord of the Rings series while the movies were coming out, but that's about it.

Now, sadly DS who is 6 is pretty much a non reader.  Part of it is lack of confidence as he can't read all the words and gets easily frustrated. Part of it is he'd rather play video games.  Part of it is he just doesn't find it fun.

That's where Dr. Suess comes in and saves my behind :) The words are smaller and goofy, the story is interesting and it's actually FUN for him.  He enjoys the wackiness of the story and I love that he gets confidence from reading so well.

His first book he read himself was Green Eggs and Ham.  After much coaxing to get started, he read the whole book by himself!!  We've also read Red Fish, Blue Fish, Hop on Pop, Oh the Places You'll Go and The Thinks You Can Think.

We've read them all several times and they're our go to books when I find he's struggling with his school dictated reading books.  I think for anyone who's struggling with reading, these books would be a great resource for any home library.

Thank you Dr. Suess for writing books that are fun even for non readers :)

Cheers!

OLW Blog Hop - March

Or  how my friend ScrappnBee has saved my procrastinating butt!!  Thanks Amanda J

I will completely admit to my epic fail.  I thought about this month’s prompt.  Really I did. But the pictures didn’t come.  And I forgot I signed up for this blog hop because I am (still!) so excited about this project, I think I signed up on the first day and then totally forgot about the deadline.
I decided this morning to have a bit of a break from reading Company Procedures and the first updated blog on my list was Amanda’s (ScrappnBee).  All I can say is thank goodness, someone was on the ball!!!  I was in panic mode because HOLY BATMAN I completely forgot to post!
So here’s my photo spread for my word : FOCUS

So from top left and moving across, this is what I would like to focus more on this year :
My family (and the one and only picture actually taken with my camera!!),
eating healthy; especially veggies!!
this quote is great -When you stop chasing the wrong things, the rights things come and find you
sunsets - which to me = relaxation
colourful balloons - happiness and fun times
running shoe - well, running and exercise ;)
stack of books - more reading and learning
happy face - no brainer here - be happy!!
interesting artwork - something that just made me smile.

I will admit that due to my procrastination, other then the picture of my family ….  The rest of these pictures were linked up from Pinterest or Google Images.  I’ll link up exactly where this weekend, well maybe not.  The quote, asparagus and sunset were Pinterest, rest were Google Image.
Again, sorry for being late and dropping the ball here.  Thank goodness March is a longer month ;)  I promise, next month this post will be much, MUCH better!!
Here’s where you’re going next J
Thanks so much for stopping by and seeing what we are up to! (hop live at 8AM PST)

Eye on the prize

Tonight, being a typical Friday night, I'm scrapping. It's my "distressing, not worrying about the hell-ish week that just happpenned" thing to do. The wine flows, the ideas flow .. if it weren't for my scraproom and (very) loud Cricut being right under DS's room, I'd have 4.  YES 4 more layouts DONE!  (All that's left is the titles, and I want to use the Cricut ;))  **I will take some pictures once they're actually done!

Also to blogland I'm admitting that I have 30 weeks left. This week at work was complete hell.  To say that I work in a "man's world" is an understatement.  I finally made the realization WHY I never got comfortable here. And I figured out I'd like to give it 30 weeks.  More for me to save the cash to be able to quit.  But at least I have a plan. And an X on the calendar so it's a concrete plan. DH will be inpressed as I'm sure he's not too thrilled with my mood as of late ;)  We'll see how the saving plan goes - hopefully the plan works and I'm "free" as of Labour Day.  That's the prize my eye is on ;)

Cheers!

Welcome to the February OLW Blog Hop!!!

So last year, I tried to do One Little Word, (OLW) and it was an epic fail.  Towards the end of last year one of my scrappy friend told me about a blog hop that Margie organizes every month and it helped keep HER i check.  (Thanks ScrappnBee!!)  So I figured I'd give OLW another try and here I am.

My word this year is FOCUS.  As I've said in an earlier blog post, by the end of last year I felt like I was pulled in too many directions all the time. And not being able to give 100% with whatever I was working on.  IT. WAS. FRUSTRATING.  One day, I was trying to clean up the kitchen while listening to DS reading.  I was frustrated with him (the situation) because I still had a million and five things to tackle before bedtime.  DS's reading was taking a long time because he was struggling.  The missing key was FOCUS.  If I would just focus on DS's reading, he'd go off tp play and I could focus on what I had to get done.  DUH!  Lightbulb moment!!  And my One Little Word for 2012 was born :)

In the short 31+ days since I've chosen my word I've really tried to spend some time really focusing on a task every day.  Folding a load of laundry only takes about 4 minutes, unloading the dishwasher takes about 3.  I've found I'm also calmer.  More at peace and less stressed.  So far so good for 2012.

Here's a picture of January's assignment.  I was so inspired, I think it was done within the first couple days of being uploaded at BPC!!

We have a total of 46 wonderful scrappers on the blog hop for this month, apparently it's the biggest hop yet!!  You will be going to Cindy's blog next.

Preparing for the busy month ahead ...

My "nesting" started on Thursday evening.  I requested my favorite freezer cooking cookbooks from the library.  Made a plan for a Costco run on Saturday with DH. Spent a couple of hours this afternoon getting a bunch of freezer meals ready to go. Spent the evening catching up on the blog hop from Friday about LOAD.  Why all the preparation??  I'm SCRAPPING baby!!!

I have 10 out of 12 layouts done for Twelve, and the new month starts on Weds so the clock starts all over again.  On top of that I thought it would be fun to tgive LOAD a try.  If you haven't heard of it before it's doing a layout a day.  There are LOTS of great reviews out there, and the blogs I've been reading have me even more excited!!

Here's where the blog hop starts if you're interested in having a peek : http://xnomads.typepad.com/blog/2012/01/welcome-to-the-pre-load-layout-a-day-blog-hop.html#tp

Don't forget to come back on Wednesday for the OLW Blog Hop starting at 8am PST.

Cheers!

January classes - status update :)

I have to admit that as busy as life is right now, I would not change a thing.

Because of Move More, Eat Well, I am getting on the bike *almost* every night after dinner.  Pop in a DVD (usually an old episode of One Tree Hill or How I Met Your Mother), bring my water bottle and Kindle (for blog reading) and I am good for 30-40 minutes.  I still need to work on the *eating well* part of the plan....  Somehow, having a Quarter Pounder with cheese combo for lunch yesterday does not fit well into the *eating well* plan. I also need to work on the actual layouts for this class ..... that is definitely on the list for this weekend!!  YIKES - canèt believe I forgot about the scrapping part!

I finished my January page for One Little Word in record time :)  I think it was done shortly after my last blog post!!  I will be participating in a blog hop on February 1st.  Come back and have a peek - I am THRILLED with how my page turned out!!

Project Life is a bit on the back burner (for now). DH had set up our new computer just after Christmas and it has taken me UNTIL NOW to figure out how to make my albums and tag photos and such.  But I have been taking loads of notes and keeping bits of details of our lives.  I might try and play some catch-up this weekend if the boys cooperate (aka if they entertain themselves with video games as usual).

But the one class I am so SUPER DUPER excited about is Twelve.

I LOVE that there is something new to think about almost every day.
I LOVE that the message board is hopping and there is so much inspiration there.
I LOVE how excited Stacy is in her messages and you can *hear* her hyper voice, even in the written material.
I LOVE that I have more then 200 page ideas floating around and I have somewhere to be keeping all these fabulous ideas!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this class!!!

I have completed 8 of the 12 layouts for this month.  I am SOOOOO  going to meet that 12 layouts a month!!

Now that we are all back into the routine of life as we know it ....  All activities are back in full swing - karate, swimming, school and work.  I should be getting back into the habit of posting.  Next update, Ièll be sure to have some pictures!!

Cheers!!

First week of the year is going pretty smooth, so far ;)

Because our lives aren't crazy enough, I decided to spend some time this year taking some really great online scrapbooking courses and start some amazing projects.  Most of these are through http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/ , if you haven't checked them out yet and you're into scrapbooking or photography YOU SHOULD!!!  Fabulous teachers, interesting  topics, so much incredible inspiration!!

If you decide to sign up for a class (or several as I tend to do), use this referral code http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/register.php?refer=3A1BE2B3 that way WE BOTH get 10% off of our next class!!  How awesome is that!?!?

Anyway, the classes I'm working on through this fabulous site are:
One Little Word
Twelve
Move More, Eat Well
Design your Life (self paced class)
Reclaiming  Your Time

I can't say I like any of these classes more or less then another.  Why?  They are ALL so different, yet they intermingle quite a bit!!  I'm finding lately that I'm really enjoying the more thought provoking classes versus the "here follow this sketch" kind of classes.  I love sketches, and I love new inspiration.  But as I seem to be spending quite a bit of time commuting lately, and that seems to be the only time that someone doesn't need me for something right. that. second. I enjoy the fact that I can ponder something I read, or a trigger I saw and think of a story I'd like to tell on my scrapbook page.

Seeing as this post has taken me over 3 days to type up, I'll save my reviews of the classes for down the road otherwise this will never get up! But I promise, you will start seeing some pictures of my progress ...  it's all about getting this new routine under my belt first.

Next week we're adding swimming lessons - for both DS and DH.  This should make an interested twist to our lives!

Have a great week!!

Happy New Year - Happy New Me :)

Happy New Year!!

The turning of the calendar was rung in without much fanfare at our home this year. In our younger years we went all out - fancy clothes, dinners, parties, too many cocktails, even limos once.

Now we're much more laid back.

Early dinner at The Keg with DH, DS stayed home with MIL (who he adores). After dinner we headed out to the casino and racetrack to donate a bit of money to the Ontario government ;) Then came home to the happiest kid ever!!  No idea on the cause of the happiness, but if I could have bottled up those smiles and giggles last night I'd never have to work again!!

After DS was safely tucked into bed, DH & I had some wine, watched some New Year's "stuff" on tv while surfing on our laptops (Me : Scrapbooking, Him : Poker and electronic sales). A decent night with no nasty hangovers this morning, which really is the ultimate gift after the craziest night of the year.

But I'm brought back to the happiest kid of last night.  He is always a great kid, a happy kid. But last night sparked something amazing.  Why aren't we happy ALL. THE. TIME. ???

I can understand as adults we need to do stuff that we don't like to do. Be responsible and go to a job even if you hate it. Choke down broccoli because someone says you need to eat more vegetables.  Pay your bills instead of buying that new toy you really really want. Blah, blah, blah ...

But in between all of the "have to's" we really need to focus on the "want to's".  Or sometimes even turn a "have to" into a "want to". Yes, I have to run.  For my mood. To work on my weight issues. As one of my new "habits".  There's a lot of "have to's".  But I also "want to" run.  I love how strong my legs feel after a run.  I love how my mind is clear and I walk in the house with a thousand ideas about anything and everything and I can't wait to get it all down.  I love how HAPPY I feel after a run, how content and that because I beat that last hill, or went a litlle faster -  I feel invincible.

So on that happy note, I'm off to build a trap (for some unseen Batman villian of course), because making DS giggle is #1 for me today. And hearing that giggle truly makes my heart happy.  Cheers!
